Greek crackdown on Macedonian journalists draws international condemnation, new questions
The tense ordeal of four Macedonian journalists detained by police in a northern Greek village on Monday is gaining wider attention, and has caused an international outcry against the perceived heavy-handedness of Greek authorities- and what their apparent contempt for the free press may be covering for.

Source: MakFax One Macedonian has been detained and four other injured in an incident that broke out in Lerin (Florina) area today, when the local inhabitants attempted to prevent the Greek Army from holding a military exercise, A1 TV Station reported Monday evening. In the report, A1 aired statements of the inhabitants of the villages near Lerin, a town situated in the Aegean part of Macedonia.

My statement today shall focus on the rights of Macedonian national minority of Greece. In line with Greek nationalist ideology, successive Greek governments have failed to acknowledge the existence of a distinct Macedonian ethnic identity and Macedonian language. The attitude of Greek authorities to the very concept of minority rights deserves particular attention.
