Macedonian Human Rights Movement International condemns the continued persecution and intimidation of journalists in the Republic of Macedonia. Critics of the Zoran Zaev regime continually face threats and criminal proceedings, including Aleksandar Mitovski, editor of the Infomax news site.
Mitovski was sentenced to six months in prison, suspended over two years, for publishing key – and public – witness testimony in a racketeering scandal involving Zaev.
Macedonian Human Rights Movement International President Bill Nicholov met with David Sproule and Andrew Turner, the Director General and Deputy Director of European and Eurasian Affairs for Global Affairs Canada, and called for Canada to immediately reverse its ill-advised support of the forced name change of the Republic of Macedonia.
Nicholov noted that Canada's policy of “Euro-Atlantic integration” cannot be pursued at the expense of human rights, international law, and the human rights conventions to which Canada is a signatory.
Macedonian Human Rights Movement International calls on Macedonian-Canadians to join our support of Dan Masin, a proud Macedonian-Canadian, who is seeking candidacy in the Ontario riding of Simcoe North.
Masin is running for the nomination in the Conservative Party of Canada, but MHRMI stresses that we are supporting Dan Masin as an individual, and reiterate our position that any political party that wants support from Macedonians must clearly support Macedonia's name and our Macedonian identity first.
Following the receipt of anti-Macedonian hate mail (see below), Macedonian Human Rights Movement International has filed a hate crime report with the Toronto Police, who have launched an investigation. Specifically, the "wilful promotion of hatred" is defined by the Criminal Code of Canada as:
Yesterday, the Bulgarian District Court in the city of Blagoevgrad (original Macedonian name, Gorna Dzumaja) decided that an NGO whose name is “Citizens' Association for the Protection of Basic Individual Human Rights” is acting against the Bulgarian Constitution and banned it. The main reason is that the NGO's aims are to protect Macedonians’ rights, however, Bulgaria denies the very existence of such an ethnicity on its soil and elsewhere.
TAKE ACTION: Visit mhrmi.org/act/media to send an INSTANT email to the world's biggest media outlets and tell them to STOP perpetuating hate against Macedonians. Tell them that OUR NAME IS MACEDONIA. Share this and ask EVERYONE you know to do the same. DON'T STOP. We WILL get Macedonia's name back.
The same power centres that control the media in Macedonia also have a monopoly over information in countries like Moldova.
Those familiar with the situation in Macedonia realized long ago that much of the media here are controlled by foreign structures, primarily the US government, and groups such as the George Soros network. This is done with the purpose of advancing US foreign policy interests in Macedonia. Media created or richly funded through USAID projects, the US Embassy in Skopje, various EU-funded programs, and even countries such as Qatar with its Al Jazeera network, are acting in unison and promoting policies whose goal is to rename Macedonia, redefine the meaning of the word “Macedonian” and end any thought of Macedonia acting as an independent, sovereign entity in the region.
Dear Macedonians, my name is Victoria Tosevski and I'm Macedonian Human Rights Movement International's Media Liaison Director.
I'm asking for your support. Macedonia and Macedonians are facing the biggest threat to our identity – and existence as Macedonians – in modern history. Our name has been forcibly changed, our identity given away to our oppressors, and our history rewritten.
Each passing day brings a new attack on Macedonians throughout all regions of partitioned Macedonia, and throughout the world.
I am MACEDONIAN. My ancestors were NOT Greek or Bulgarian. Unfortunately, they are our oppressors. I am most definitely NOT "North Macedonian". I don’t recognize the politicians who wish to sell my name, ethnicity, language and culture which is my basic human right with the false hopes of entering the EU. The Zaev regime does NOT represent my family, my ancestors or my descendants. I don’t know what he represents except money, for his corrupt and treacherous self.
Macedonian Human Rights Movement International has launched a new campaign – directed at politicians in the Republic of Macedonia – to pledge immediate annulment of the anti-Macedonian “Prespa Agreement”. Any politician who claims that it is “complicated” to annul an illegally-imposed law is either incompetent or complicit in the forced name, identity and history change imposed on Macedonians.
