Five year anniversary since the Macedonian Association “Ilinden” - Tirana joined the Federal Union of European Nationalities

Five years ago this day, the Macedonian Association “Ilinden” - Tirana was admitted into the family of representatives of European nationalities and was made a full member of the Federal Union of European Nationalities (FUEN). We are particularly grateful to Macedonian Human Rights Movement International from Canada, led by its President Bill Nicholov, for their contribution in achieving this goal. The Macedonian Association “Ilinden” - Tirana became a full member of the Federal Union of European Nationalities (FUEN) at the FUEN congress which was held on May 15 2015 in Komotini, Greece, organized by the Federation of Western Thracian Turks in Europe, the Association of Western Thracian Turk graduate students and the Friendship, Equailty and Peace Party. Since then, the Macedonian Association “Ilinden” - Tirana greatly contributed to document and overcome the many challenges that Macedonians in Albania face. We've worked continuously to protect the ethnic, linguistic and cultural identity and the national traditions of the Macedonians in Albania. On top of this, the Macedonian Association “Ilinden” - Tirana has regularly attended all gatherings organized by FUEN in the past five years. We were present at the Wroclaw, Poland congress held on May 21 2016, the congress in Cluj Napoca in Romania on May 20 2017, the congress in Leeuwarden, the Netherlands, on June 23 2018 and in the latest congress held on June 15 2019 in Bratislava, Slovakia. At all these meetings, the Macedonian Association “Ilinden” - Tirana submitted resolutions whose goal is to advance and improve the life of Macedonians in Albania and they were all adopted by the Federal Union of European Nationalities (FUEN). The resolutions were forwarded to international institutions that deal with minority issues, as well as to the institutions of the Albanian state. The extent to which these resolutions help improve the lot of Macedonians in Albania will be the next focus on our work at the coming FUEN congress. The Macedonian Association “Ilinden” - Tirana works as an equal FUEN member and as part of the task force on Slavic minorities in Europe and we actively raise the issue of the rights of Macedonians in Albania at the international scene. The Macedonian Association “Ilinden” - Tirana would like to express its sincere gratitude to all members of the Federal Union of European Nationalities (FUEN) for their cooperation and the understanding they've shown regarding the interests of the Macedonian minority in Albania. At the same time, we extend our sincere congratulations to the members, associates and supporters of the Macedonian Association “Ilinden” - Tirana on this five year anniversary of our membership in the premiere minority rights association in Europe, determined that we continue to work defending the needs and the interests of the Macedonians in Albania in the future. May we continue to do so for many years to come and advance friendship among all nations and minorities in the world.

Respectfully,
Nikola Gjurgjaj
