Panayote Dimitras Macedonian Human Rights Movement International (MHRMI) - Press Release

Toronto, Canada - Macedonian Human Rights Movement International (MHRMI) will be holding an information forum this Sunday, October 18, 2009 at 12:30pm at St. Clement of Ohrid Macedonian Orthodox Cathedral in Toronto.

Special guests will be Greek Helsinki Monitor Spokesperson Panayote Dimitras and Minority Rights Group - Greece Spokesperson Nafsika Papanikolatos.

The honoured guests and MHRMI will give an update on the current human rights situation of Macedonians in the Balkans, and will focus on human rights problems Macedonians face in Greece. Emphasis will be placed on recent United Nations and Council of Europe reviews of Greece's human rights record including their recommendation for recognition of the Macedonian minority and the abolition of disciminatory laws denying the right of return for Detsa Begaltsi and property restitution or compensation.

Admission is free. Donations of $100 or more will be issued a charitable tax receipt.

MHRMI envisions a future where Macedonians, specifically in Greece, Bulgaria, Albania, Serbia and Kosovo, are officially recognized and can enjoy fundamental human rights such as freedom of speech, freedom of assocation and assembly, and respect for their right to self-identification as Macedonians, as repeatedly recommended by the UN and the Council of Europe.

The biggest challenge we face is a financial one. Macedonian Human Rights Movement International needs your support so that we may continue to assist Macedonians in their struggle for human rights.

Please show your support by attending our information forum and consider giving a monthly, annual or one-time donation.
