MHRMC Response to National Geographic Article on the Balkans
To the Editor: "The Balkans” map supplement was intended to provide a comprehensive analysis of an area in which ethnic tensions have frequently erupted into conflict. However, it only perpetuated the myths that have often been the source of these conflicts. For example, National Geographic seems to adhere to the Greek position that this country is ethnically homogenous.

Response to GHM/IFEX Appeal: Greek journalists beaten by mayor who walks free despite charges
The Macedonian Human Rights Movement of Canada condemns the recent attack against two journalists, ombudsman representatives and Jehovah's Witnesses in Cassandra, Halkidiki (northern Greece). A mob, led by mayor Costas Papayannis, tried to prevent local Jehovah's Witnesses from starting construction of their house of worship, work authorized by the authorities.

United Nations Conference - National Minorities
From May 25 - 31, 1999 the Macedonian Human Rights Movement of Canada (MHRMC) attended a conference sponsored by the United Nations Commission On Human Rights, Sub Commission on Prevention of Discrimination and Protection of Minorities, Fifth Working Group Session. The conference was held in Geneva, Switzerland, the European headquarters of the United Nations.
