First congress of the "Macedonian Party" in Albania

Macedonian Party Alliance for European Integration, established on October 30, 2004, held Saturday in Tirana the first congress, at which it was renamed into Macedonian Party.

Incumbent mayor of Pustec municipality Edmond Temelko was elected first party president. Moreover, the Statute and party program were adopted, along with the decision on establishing regional offices.

Temelko stated that the election represents a great honor, but also responsibility and challenge.

"We should be increasingly engaged regarding the party's further activities, as well as its participation at the parliamentary elections, in order to justify this bestowed trust", stressed leader Temelko, adding that the party's central committee should decide on entering into coalition for the June 28 elections in Albania.

The congress was attended by delegates from all Albanian regions populated with Macedonians, as well as guests, representatives of Macedonian associations from Macedonia, Greece, USA etc.

On behalf of the Macedonian Government, Deputy-Foreign Minister Zoran Petrov addressed the congress, wishing further success to the first Macedonian political party abroad.

Petrov stressed the historic significance of the event for Macedonians in Albania, but also for Macedonians in order neighboring countries, the diaspora and in Macedonia.

"This event contributes to the preservation of our name, national identity, language and culture", added Petrov.

Macedonia's Ambassador to Albania, Blagorodna Mingova-Krepieva assessed that the Macedonian Party in Albania demonstrates democratic political participation in the spirit of equality, cooperation, European norms and development, building another bridge in the context of good neighborly relations and friendship between Macedonia and Albania.
