Article by MHRMI supporter Biljana Saragil: An attempt to rewrite our history and change our ethnicity is underway. Are you ok with that? What is your red line? “I’m not political” or “we live in the West. Why should I care about what happens in Macedonia? It doesn’t affect me. I’m still Macedonian and I’m not going to stress about what happens in Macedonia. I only concern myself with what happens in the country I live in.”
The Macedonian Association “Ilinden” - Tirana strongly condemns the September 9 statement by Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Krasimir Karakachanov. Referring to Macedonia, Karakachanov said: ‘You changed your name and your flag, you wil also change your history”. This is his brazen announcement that Bulgaria will block the opening of EU accession talks at the first inter-governmental conference between Macedonia and the European Union, unless Macedonia meets the conditions from the anti-Macedonian treaty concluded on August 1, 2017 to revise Macedonian history in a way that will portray Macedonians as Bulgarians, the Macedonian language as a mere Bulgarian dialect and Macedonia as part of Bulgaria.
Forget cancel culture. My actual culture is being cancelled. What could this possibly mean? It means that my country’s name, identity and history have been forcibly changed — by the United States — in order to appease our oppressors. What could THIS possibly mean? It means that our two biggest oppressors...
A lot of Democratic Party voters don’t know what is happening in Macedonia, but the Democratic Party does — because they orchestrated it. And the Republican Party fully endorses it. Why? Because it fulfills the number one objective of US foreign policy going back over seven decades — interventionism.
Following the receipt of anti-Macedonian hate mail (see below), Macedonian Human Rights Movement International has filed a hate crime report with the Toronto Police, who have launched an investigation. Specifically, the "wilful promotion of hatred" is defined by the Criminal Code of Canada as:
Yesterday, the Bulgarian District Court in the city of Blagoevgrad (original Macedonian name, Gorna Dzumaja) decided that an NGO whose name is “Citizens' Association for the Protection of Basic Individual Human Rights” is acting against the Bulgarian Constitution and banned it. The main reason is that the NGO's aims are to protect Macedonians’ rights, however, Bulgaria denies the very existence of such an ethnicity on its soil and elsewhere.
Claiming that Macedonians voluntarily chose to rename our country into “North Macedonia” and ethnicity into “North Macedonians” is like saying that Indigenous groups choose to be called “Redskins”. And when Western media attack Macedonians for denouncing the forced name change, it would be akin to them attacking Indigenous groups for denouncing anti-Indigenous terms.
Welcome to The Surreal World: Macedonia.
TAKE ACTION: Visit mhrmi.org/act/media to send an INSTANT email to the world's biggest media outlets and tell them to STOP perpetuating hate against Macedonians. Tell them that OUR NAME IS MACEDONIA. Share this and ask EVERYONE you know to do the same. DON'T STOP. We WILL get Macedonia's name back.
Published in Emerging Europe – Of course, all, or any, of these actions should have stopped the “dispute” dead in its tracks. NATO and the EU should have reprimanded (or better yet, expelled) Greece and Bulgaria for the blatant violation of the rights their organizations claim to uphold, but instead they chose to aid them, all in the name of increasing NATO and EU membership. The international community should be condemning all parties involved in the cultural genocide of Macedonians. The aforementioned group of politicians, journalists, etc. – which espouses the defence of human rights, democracy and the rule of law – should issue condemnation, not celebration, of hypocrisy.
The same power centres that control the media in Macedonia also have a monopoly over information in countries like Moldova.
Those familiar with the situation in Macedonia realized long ago that much of the media here are controlled by foreign structures, primarily the US government, and groups such as the George Soros network. This is done with the purpose of advancing US foreign policy interests in Macedonia. Media created or richly funded through USAID projects, the US Embassy in Skopje, various EU-funded programs, and even countries such as Qatar with its Al Jazeera network, are acting in unison and promoting policies whose goal is to rename Macedonia, redefine the meaning of the word “Macedonian” and end any thought of Macedonia acting as an independent, sovereign entity in the region.
